Ham Radio loses another friend. April 21, 2008

Sam Cirino
April 21, 2008

Pompano Beach, Florida

Sam has been a fixture on the .97 repeater for many years. He lived in Everett during the summer, and spent the winters in Florida with his daughter.  You knew it was summer when Sam started checking in to the Central Mass 2 Meter traffic net and George's Old Timers' Net.

Sam passed away on April 21, 2008 after suffering a massive stroke about a week earlier.

Sam was a WWII Navy veteran, having served aboard USS Chicago CA136, and was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Belloise), as well as six brothers. Sam is survived by five daughters and a son, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

KB4MPU "Portable One", we'll miss you.

With her permission, I'm sharing what Sam's granddaughter Maureen wrote to say -

I just found your posting and I just wanted to let his radio family know that Papa was buried with a baseball hat embroidered with his "call" numbers.  He enjoyed talking to everyone on his radio and always asked the younger kids to sit with him while he was on.  I once made the mistake of calling him on his birthday during his radio time and I never made that mistake again.  Our conversation was about 10 seconds long.  I still laugh when I think of it.

Thank You for your kind words,
Maureen Ivany (one of the 14)
